Description

This is the cross situated at the location where Christopher Newport's crew first made landing in the new world in 1607. Originally a wooden cross was fashioned to commemorate the landing, but in 1935, the Daughters of the American Colonists created a granite cross along the ocean side (which has since been moved to the safer, land-side of the dunes).
